FAQ’s
Can Chiropractic Help Me? At Dembski Chiropractic & Rehabilitation, we ‘feel our patient’s pain’. We are different from most chiropractors because we take the time to listen closely to our patient’s problems to discover the source of the pain/problem and then we make very specific recommendations. We are looking to resolve the problem.
Is Chiropractic Care Safe? Chiropractic adjustments are safer than aspirin, muscle relaxers, and back surgery. When compared with traditional approaches, Chiropractic care is remarkably safe. Dozens of research studies have documented the safety and effectiveness of Chiropractic adjustments.
How are Chiropractors Trained? Doctors of Chiropractic must complete a notably rigorous course of study. Most state licensing boards require at least two years of undergraduate education and completion of a four-year Chiropractic college course.
What Happens During a First Visit? During an initial visit our doctors ask many questions re: the pain or discomfort, plus obtain insights into a patient’s health history. We listen closely to determine if chiropractic treatments would resolve the problems, or if a patient should be referred to a specialist. An examination is performed to determine the cause of the symptoms.
What’s An Adjustment? Once our physicians understand a patient’s condition, and an adjustment of the individual’s spine is performed, the physician will use his/her skilled hands to manipulate the spine to help restore proper spinal function. An adjustment unlocks specific spinal segments that may have become “stuck” and are causing abnormal movement or nerve irritation in the spine. These “adjustments” are generally painless. Continued visits help retrain the supporting muscles and ligaments of the spine, and ongoing examinations monitor the healing process and need for further adjustments.
How Much Training Does a Chiropractor Receive? Doctors of Chiropractic receive extensive training. They begin with at least two years of undergraduate college, followed by four to five years of specialized Chiropractic training. They are required to complete basic science courses in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and microbiology, as well as intensive courses in diagnosis, radiology, orthopedics, neurology, nutrition and public health. Each student then participates in a clinical internship followed by a licensing exam.
Who Should Receive Chiropractic Care? Chiropractic treatment is for people of all ages, including children and senior citizens. It is a natural, drugless, safe and highly effective treatment to eliminate pain.
Does Medical Insurance Cover Chiropractic Care? According to a 1994 federal study, 80% of healthcare plans that employers offer cover at least part of the cost of Chiropractic treatment. In addition, Medicare, Medicaid, and workers’ compensation cover Chiropractic care. It is recommended that people considering chiropractic care speak with their employer and/or insurance company to determine Chiropractic benefits.
